Critical Recognition - formal commendation in print
Popularity at the Time of Release - including figures for box office adjusted for inflation, television broadcasts and syndication, DVD and video sales and rentals.
Historical Significance - a film's mark on the history of the moving image through technical innovation, visionary narrative devices or other groundbreaking achievements.
Cultural Impact - a film's mark on society in matters of style and substance
Films From All Around the World - Although American films dominate the list, it includes movies from all around the world.
Major Award Winners - recognition from competitive events including awards from organizations in the film community and major film festivals.
Nothing Personal - This list has nothing to do with my personal taste. That's the whole point.

Movie Count - there are 374 movies on the list.
The Most Celebrated Director - Masters of suspense Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg both have seven films on the list.
The Most Celebrated Star - Legendary Hollywood Star James Stewart has seven film on the list. So has Swedish acting master Max Von Sydow, but he doesn't play the lead in all of them. Robert Deniro, Dustin Hofman, Jack Nicholson and surprisingly Morgan Freeman all follow with six films each.
The Most Celebrated Leading Lady - The only actress with more than three films on the list is the ever charming Diane Keaton, although she doesn't play the lead in all of her four films.
New Films and Revisions: films are added and deleted throughtout the year. However, recent films are added in the first weeks of March.
